Watch: Alex Bregman makes absurd, leaping catch to steal a hit in Game 1 of ALCS
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman posted MVP-caliber numbers during the regular season. Now he’s making MVP-caliber defensive plays in Game 1 of the ALCS against the New York Yankees.

Yankees’ third baseman Gio Urshela drilled a liner towards the left side of the infield. A play that everyone watching thought would be a double instead turned into an out with a remarkable Bregman leap into the air to snag the ball.

Bregman posted a .298/.423/.592 slash line this season with 41 home runs and a 1.015 OPS. While he’s a strong defender at third base, shortstop Carlos Correa is often recognized as Houston’s best defensive player.

It looks like Bregman is trying to change that. On a night when pitching is dominating early, Bregman made sure to put his insane reflexes and remarkable vertical on display for a national audience.
