Watch: Alex Verdugo clocked at 97.1 mph on throw home
Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Verdugo showed off quite the arm with a throw home during Sunday night’s Los Angeles Dodgers-Boston Red Sox game.

Verdugo’s Dodgers were up 4-2 on the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Red Sox had runners on first and second with two outs when J.D. Martinez singled to left. Rafael Devers tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate by Verdugo:

That was a defensive gem.

Verdugo’s throw was clocked at 97.1 mph and traveled an estimated 231 feet.

We saw Aaron Judge reach triple digits on a throw home last year, so this isn’t unprecedented. Still, seeing an outfielder throw that hard is impressive.
