Watch: DJ LeMahieu somehow drops infield popup for embarrassing error
Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

DJ LeMahieu committed a truly unbelievable error during Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday between his New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins were batting in the top of the second inning and CJ Cron was up with one out and a runner on second. Cron popped up a ball to first. LeMahieu, who usually plays second or third, was at first and somehow dropped the ball.

That allowed Cron to reach and put runners on first and second with one out. The next batter was Luis Arraez, who grounded into a double play to end the inning. LeMahieu’s error did not cost the Yankees a run, but it sure was a baffling miscue.

LeMahieu played at first during 40 regular-season games. He’s also used to playing on the right side of the field — another reason why the error was so surprising.
