Watch: Pirates prospect Paul Skenes' remarkable streak ends

In Indianapolis' 7-4 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Paul Skenes had his remarkable scoreless inning streak snapped at 14.1.

In the bottom of the second, the right-hander gave up an RBI single to Omaha's Nate Eaton.

Until giving up the run, Skenes — the top pick in the 2023 MLB Draft — had been stellar in Triple-A, posting a 0.00 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.

In his fifth start, Skenes still had a solid outing, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out seven.

In 17 innings, Skenes has allowed 10 hits, struck out 34 and posted a 0.53 ERA.

This is not Skenes' first time in Omaha, as he helped lead LSU to a national championship in the College World Series last season, giving up just two runs in 15 2/3 innings and striking out 21.

Many fans wonder how long it will take before the Pirates call up the generational prospect.

Heading into Wednesday's game against Milwaukee, Pittsburgh is 13-11, so adding the 6-foot-6, 235-pound pitcher to the staff could be what the fourth-place Pirates need to move up in the NL Central.
