Watch: Rangers Prospect Fans Seven

Texas Rangers prospect Jose Corniell is off to a great start with the organization’s Low Class-A Down East Wood Ducks.

Corniell struck out seven in his last start for Down East on Tuesday. He's struck out at least seven in his last two outings.

It was also one off his season high on April 14.

He wrapped up a terrific May, making four starts and going 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA in 17 1/3 innings.

For the season he’s 3-1 with a 2.78 ERA in 31 1/3 innings. He’s allowed just 19 hits and has struck out 42 batters. He’s walked only 10.

While Corniell is not among the Rangers’ Top 30 prospects, he’s shown improvement in his third minor league season.

In 2022, also with Down East, he went 3-5 with a 5.45 ERA in 22 games (four starts), throwing 66 innings. He struck out 71 and walked 34.

In 2021, he threw 38 2/3 innings for the Rangers’ Arizona Complex League team. He went 1-3 with a 6.98 ERA in 13 games (nine starts). He struck out 44 and walked 14.

Corniell joined the Rangers in late 2020 in a trade. The Rangers sent pitcher Rafael Montero to the Seattle Mariners for Corniell and a player to be named later. The Mariners originally signed him as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2019.
