Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Reds needed to rally if they wanted to pull out the series over the San Diego Padres.
Elly De La Cruz started the inning by reaching on an error after a 10-pitch at-bat. After an Austin Hays flyout, Gavin Lux walked and Spencer Steer hit a single to center field and De La Cruz was able to slide in just ahead of the tag at home plate.
Jose Trevino singled by Trevino was held at third base. Next batter, Will Benson ripped a ball down the right field line to give the Reds a 3-2 victory. It was Cincinnati's sixth win in their last seven series.
