Watch: Trea Turner, returning Bryce Harper guide Phillies to win

Bryce Harper went yard in his return, but he wasn't the star of Tuesday's game when the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Philadelphia scored eight runs off 11 hits, defeating Toronto, 8-3, in the opener of a three-game series.

Needing to keep winning to keep pace with the division-leading Mets, the Phillies' bats took charge of the right away, with six runs in the top of the first inning.

Trea Turner was responsible for driving in two of those six first inning runs with the first of his two home runs in the game. Turner crushed a pitch into his team's bullpen in right field with one runner on and no outs.

Harper then made it back-to-back homers for the Phillies when he hit his ninth of the year. Prior to Tuesday, Harper had missed five games after being hit by a 95 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider last week.

Harper was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and his solo shot, but it was Turner who swung the bat better than anyone.

Turner went 3-for-5 in the game and connected on another long ball in the eighth. His second home run just got over the fence in left field and added an extra insurance run in a game that was already decided by that point.

Turner now has seven home runs and 28 RBI in 58 games while leading his team with a .305 batting average.

In an ironic twist, Kyle Schwarber, who is only one home run behind Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for the National League lead, went 0-for-5 on the day.

The Phillies are now 37-23, sitting right behind New York in the National League East. Philadelphia will continue its series in Toronto before traveling back to Pennsylvania, granted on the other side of the state, for a weekend series with the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
