Where Are They Now? The Prospects Acquired for Luis Castillo

The Cincinnati Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the San Diego Padres last night. Tomorrow their former pitcher Luis Castillo will make his 11th start of the season and his 53rd overall for Seattle. Since being acquired from the Reds he is 22-16 with a 3.29 ERA, a 3.52 FIP, a 1.10 WHIP, a 1.1 HR/9, a 2.5 BB/9, and a 10.1 K/9. He had spent the first six seasons of his big league career with the Reds going 44-53 with a 3.62 ERA, a 3.70 FIP, a 1.20 WHIP, a 1.0 HR/9, a 3.3 BB/9, and a 9.8 K/9. So what about the prospects acquired for Castillo from Seattle, where are they now?

The Prospects

Noelvi Marte

Marte is currently serving an 80-game suspension. He’s ranked as the 20th overall prospect by ITD. Since joining the Reds organization he has played for their rookie league team, High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. In 2023 he made his debut with the Reds playing in 35 games he hit .316 with a .822 OPS; he had seven doubles, three home runs, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored, six stolen bases, and eight walks.

Edwin Arroyo

Arroyo is currently on the 60-day injured list and is out for the 2024 season. He’s ranked as the 65th overall prospect by ITD. He’s played for the Reds rookie league, Single-A, and last season High-A, and Double-A. In 123 games in 2023, he hit .252 with a .757 OPS; he had 28 doubles, 11 triples, 13 home runs, 60 RBI, 74 runs scored, 29 stolen bases and 49 walks.

Andrew Moore

Moore has pitched for the Reds rookie league team, Single-A, High-A, and Double-A. This season he’s appeared at High-A and Double-A pitching in 11 games going 1-2 with a 4.24 WHIP, a 1.70 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts in 17 innings.

Levi Stoudt

Stoudt has pitched at Double-A and Triple-A. Last season at Triple-A he appeared in 25 games with 19 of those coming as started he was 5-6 with a 6.23 ERA, a 1.66 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 82.1 innings. With the Reds, he made four appearances with two of those as starts going 0-1 with a 9.58 ERA, a 2.32 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 10.1 innings. He was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on February 17th returning to the team that drafted him in the third round. He’s currently pitching at Triple-A having made eight appearances with seven of those coming as starts, he is 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.

Who won the trade in your opinion? Right now I’d say Seattle but in a few years when Arroyo and Marte are back and playing for the Reds or flipped for more pieces because of the log jam in the infield I’d say it’s Cincinnati.
