Whit Merrifield announced his retirement from Major League Baseball following 9 seasons earlier today. He posted his heartfelt retirement letter on social media. Here is part of Merrifield’s statement: “Since I’ve now had some time away from the game, I’ve had a chance to reflect on my individual career for the first time in my life. I’m proud of myself. The toughness I developed and the things I was able to accomplish, nobody outside of my camp felt possible…” How will his career be remembered?

Merrifield’s MLB career included stints with the Kansas City Royals , Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves. He is a three-time MLB All-Star and led the league in hits in back-to-back seasons(2018, 2019.) He also led the league in stolen bases and doubles in 2021. He was also an “Iron Man” throughout his career. He played 145+ games six times and did not miss a game during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 campaign.
As his retirement announcement spelled out, Merrifield is ready for the next chapter of life. He ended his MLB career with no regrets. He was a solid player that was reportedly well-respected by his teammates in the locker rooms he played for.
