White Sox Align Pitchers for Series vs. Royals

Lance Lynn will get the ball Tuesday in the first game of a straight doubleheader. The big right-hander has endured a frustrating season riddled with injury and underperformance. However, his last outing was a resounding success.

On Wednesday against Kansas City, Lynn tossed six innings of one-run ball with no walks and eight strikeouts. Despite a 65-minute rain delay in the second inning, the veteran maintained his effective ways to record a quality start. Lynn will look to shut down the Royals once again to open Tuesday’s twin bill.

The White Sox have not announced a starter for Game 2 of the doubleheader. However, recalling Davis Martin from Triple-A Charlotte to take the mound seems like a safe bet. Martin has already made three spot starts this season. He last pitched Wednesday for the Knights and went 2.2 innings, so he should be ready to go if needed by the MLB club.

Wednesday: Johnny Cueto

Johnny Cueto will head to the mound for Wednesday night’s contest. The 36-year-old pitched all eight innings Thursday against the Rangers but took a loss as the Sox offense faltered. He scattered 11 hits but only allowed three runs, giving his team an excellent chance to defeat Texas.

Cueto has been a major bright spot in what has otherwise been an underwhelming season for the White Sox. Since joining the team in mid-May, 12 of his 14 starts have been quality starts.

Thursday: Dylan Cease

The Chicago White Sox will have their ace on the hill for the series finale against the Royals. Dylan Cease is making a Cy Young case after winning back-to-back AL Pitcher of the Month awards.

On the season, Cease is 12-4 with a 1.98 ERA and an MLB-leading 12.2 K/9 rate. He picked up a win his last time out thanks to a six-inning, one-run showing against the Rangers. Despite the South Siders’ offensive woes, Cease has been able to dominate opponents by keeping them off the board.
