The 3-8 Chicago White Sox will face the San Francisco Giants this afternoon. The club made five roster cuts, including notable names ahead of the game. Top pitching prospects Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith were assigned to minor league camp.
Meanwhile, the White Sox announced their roster for the upcoming MLB Spring Breakout, a four-day event showcasing the best young talent in minor league baseball. The event, which debuted last year, will take place from March 13 to 16 at Grapefruit and Cactus League sites. Sixteen games will be played, featuring each organization’s top prospects.
The White Sox and the Seattle Mariners will each send six of their MLB.com Top 100 ranked prospects to the showcase, the most of any team. Chicago will send shortstop Colson Montgomery, catcher Edgar Quero, and right-handed pitcher Jairo Iriarte.
Catcher Kyle Teel, infielder Chase Meidroth, outfielder Braden Montgomery, and Wikelman Gonzalez are also included. The group comprises the four-player return from the Boston Red Sox for Garrett Crochet. Fast-rising right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor and lefties Schultz and Smith will also compete.
In total, 16 of the White Sox’s top 20 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline, will participate. The team’s first Spring Breakout game is set for Sunday, March 16, at Camelback Ranch, with the first pitch at 4:05 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game live on MLB.TV, MLB.com, the MLB app, and CHSN.
