The Chicago White Sox got a taste of their own medicine in Saturday's matinee against the Houston Astros. After an impressive 7–3 win in the series opener, the South Siders were outslugged in an 8–3 loss, despite jumping out to a 3–0 lead.
The Sox struck early, stringing together four singles in the first inning to put up a crooked number. Leadoff man Chase Meidroth singled to open the frame and came around to score on Andrew Benintendi's base hit after advancing to third on Miguel Vargas's single and an error by centerfielder Jake Myers.

After a productive groundout by Joshua Palacios advanced the runners to second and third, Andrew Vaughn's base knock plated two runs to cap off the three-run rally.

Unfortunately, that was about it for the offense. After the first inning, the White Sox managed just four walks and two hits while looking lifeless for much of the afternoon.
Right-hander Davis Martin gave the White Sox a fighting chance. He worked five innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out five. He cruised through a 1-2-3 fifth, but Houston had already gotten to him.
Myers chose this afternoon to channel 2019 Mike Trout. He took Martin deep with a solo homer in the third, then followed up with a two-out two-run triple in the fourth to tie the game at 3–3.
After Martin exited, Fraser Allard struck out two in the sixth before walking back-to-back batters. Will Venable turned to Penn Murfee, who promptly gave up a three-run homer to Myers—his second bomb of the day—to give the Astros the lead for good.
The Astros added on in the eighth with a trio of doubles, one of which was Myers', off Jared Shuster, pushing the score to 8–3 and putting the game firmly out of reach.
Houston starter Hunter Brown settled in after the shaky first inning and didn't allow another hit. He earned his fifth win, allowing four hits, three walks, and fanning five in six innings.
• After a four-hit first inning, the White Sox managed only two more base hits (both in the ninth) and four walks for the rest of the game.
• Jake Myers entered Saturday with no home runs on the season and left the game with two homers, a triple, a double, and seven RBIs.
The White Sox will try once again to win their second series of the season in Sunday's rubber match. Bryse Wilson will take the mound for the South Siders, while the Astros send Lance McCullers Jr. to the hill for his first MLB appearance since 2022.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. CT and will air on CHSN.
