The Chicago White Sox played their second straight season finale featuring a roughly three-hour rain delay Wednesday afternoon. They suffered the same fate as in Sunday’s finale against the Los Angeles Angels, this time falling 6-1 to their division rivals, the Minnesota Twins.
Rookie Sean Burke made his first start since throwing six scoreless innings in the Opening Day win over the Angels. He experienced a much more difficult outing Wednesday, allowing all six Twins runs on seven hits and one walk. He fanned just one hitter.
Twins outfielder Harrison Bader belted a three-run homer, while Byron Buxton opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo shot. Bader's homer extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, and in the fifth, the Twins tacked on two more runs on three doubles by Carlos Correa, Buxton, and Ty France.
Reliever Cam Booser surrendered the double to France, allowing an inherited runner to score. White Sox relievers, Booser, Mike Clevinger, and Mike Vasil, combined for 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three with no walks.
Chicago managed just six hits, one of which left the park off the bat of utility man Brooks Baldwin for their only run.
