As pitchers and catchers gather in Glendale, Arizona for Chicago White Sox Spring Training , the first injury update of the 2024 season came to light. Pitcher Davis Martin is targeting a mid-July return as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Martin's last MLB appearance came in the White Sox' 2022 season finale. He made just three starts for Triple-A Charlotte last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery in mid-May.
During his rookie season, Martin served as a spot starter and an occasional reliever for the White Sox. In 14 MLB games (nine starts), he posted a 4.83 ERA and 1.295 WHIP with 48 strikeouts against 19 walks across 63.1 innings.
Martin is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Monday as he continues on the comeback trail. If all goes well, the White Sox could receive a versatile arm to bolster their pitching staff midseason.
In the meantime, the White Sox have several new arms to cover innings. Erick Fedde, Chris Flexen, and Michael Soroka will likely help fill out the starting rotation while John Brebbia and Tim Hill work out of the bullpen. The South Siders also have several non-roster invitees who could be in the pitching mix.
