White Sox: Joey Bart Suffers Fractured Hand After HBP

Bart was struck by a 97.7 mph fastball from Red Sox reliever Erik Miller with two outs in the top of the seventh inning at Fenway Park. He was immediately removed from the game and replaced by Drew Romo. The White Sox announced the diagnosis before the game ended and said Bart will undergo further evaluation.

It was Bart’s second hit-by-pitch of the night; he had also been plunked on the foot earlier in the contest. The 29-year-old finished 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in the game.

Bart was acquired from the Atlanta Braves on Monday in exchange for right-hander Duncan Davitt. He made his White Sox debut Tuesday and was expected to handle the bulk of the catching duties while Kyle Teel remains on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.

The injury leaves the White Sox thin behind the plate once again. Edgar Quero has reportedly been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to share time with Romo.
