White Sox Make Move After Unfortunate News

The Chicago White Sox made a roster move after suffering an unfortunate blow behind the plate, recalling top catching prospect Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte after Joey Bart fractured his left hand during Thursday night's loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Francys Romero first reported the move on X after Bart exited Chicago's 12-11 extra-innings defeat. The White Sox now turn back to Quero as they try to navigate another setback while holding first place in the American League Central.

The White Sox enter the weekend with a 59-55 record, maintaining a 3-game lead over both the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians in the division standings.

Bart's injury occurred in the seventh inning when he was hit on the left hand by a 98 mph fastball from Red Sox reliever Erik Miller. Postgame X-rays revealed a fractured fifth metacarpal, an injury expected to sideline him for multiple weeks while the club determines whether surgery will be necessary.

The 29-year-old was acquired from the Atlanta Braves just before the trade deadline to strengthen Chicago's injury-depleted catching corps. He appeared in only three games with the White Sox before the injury interrupted his stint with the club.

Quero returns to the major league roster after appearing in 61 games for the White Sox earlier this season. The 23-year-old switch-hitter batted .194 with two home runs and 16 RBIs over 170 at-bats, though Chicago continues to view him as an important piece of its long-term plans despite his early offensive struggles.

Bart's injury further strains the White Sox behind the plate with Kyle Teel already sidelined by a high ankle sprain. That leaves Quero and Drew Romo sharing catching duties as Chicago looks to protect its lead atop the AL Central during the stretch run.
