The Chicago White Sox will try to snap their four-game losing streak Tuesday night against the reigning champion Texas Rangers. Chicago's innings-restricted ace, Garrett Crochet, gives them their best chance at a win, but inclement weather in the area may cancel the game altogether. Thunderstorms and oppressive heat did not stop Chris Getz and Co. from shuffling the roster for the second straight day. The team announced four moves before today's scheduled game against Texas.
Infielder Bryan Ramos, who Chicago recalled from the Triple-A Charlotte Knights yesterday, was returned to the Knights. Newly acquired infielder Jacob Amaya will join his new teammates in Chicago as a member of the active roster. Right-handed reliever Prelander Berroa returns to Chicago for his third stint in the big leagues. Notably, the White Sox designated reliever John Brebbia for assignment.

Brebbia signed with the South Siders as a free agent in the offseason, inking a one-year $5.5M deal with a mutual option for a second year. The second year includes a $1.5M buyout. The 34-year-old joined the club as the presumed closer but had an abbreviated Spring Training due to a right calf strain. The same calf strain landed him on the IL after only 2.2 innings of work.
Brebbia departs the White Sox with a 6.29 ERA in 48.2 innings over 54 games. To his credit, the veteran had an outstanding stretch from June 2 to July 10, allowing only two runs over 18.1 innings.
In the offseason, Berroa came to the White Sox via a trade with the Seattle Mariners. He's made three appearances over two big league stints this year, allowing three earned runs in two innings pitched. The 24-year-old has had a rough year in Triple-A Charlotte after compiling a 2.89 ERA with the Mariners Double-A affiliate in 2023. He's tossed 46.1 in Charlotte with 49 strikeouts and a 6.41 ERA.
Amaya joins the White Sox organization from the Houston Astros, who designated him for assignment after only one at-bat. The 25-year-old has 10 career major league at-bats since being drafted in the 11th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ramos' promotion from Triple-A lasted a day and appears to have been a procedural move to prevent the White Sox from playing a player short.
Despite his dominant stretch of pitching up to the all-star break, his dreadful performance at the end of July collapsed any increase in trade value. Brebbia could not be the veteran anchor of the White Sox bullpen they intended him to be or the possible trade asset his track record indicated. Brebbia's departure allows Berroa to stay in the big leagues for an extended time.
Amaya is in the fold with Miguel Vargas, Brooks Baldwin, Nicky Lopez, Lenyn Sosa, and Yoan Moncada, who will begin a rehab assignment today. With Moncada's impending return, barring any setbacks, and Ramos' knocking at the door, Chris Getz and Co. will have to decide who they let audition in September for the 2025 team.
