White Sox Make Roster Moves Ahead of Tigers Series

The Chicago White Sox announced several roster moves Friday ahead of their series opener in Detroit.

Right-hander José Urquidy and left-hander Tyler Schweitzer have been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. Right-hander Davis Martin was placed on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his right middle finger, and right-hander Tanner McDougal was optioned to Charlotte.

Martin has dealt with the blister issue recently. He referenced the blister after being ejected from Thursday afternoon’s start against the Reds after losing control of the baseball and plunking Sal Stewart in the helmet. The right-hander has been a key part of the White Sox rotation this season despite recently enduring a tough stretch that dates back to just before the All-Star break.

Urquidy, acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 26, returns to the major league roster after time in Charlotte. Schweitzer also rejoins the club after a few previous stints with the White Sox this season. He holds a 2.78 ERA over 22.2 innings of work and has mainly been used in a long relief role.

The moves come as Chicago opens a series against the Tigers in Detroit on Friday night, a series that carries major implications for the AL Central race.
