White Sox place Luis Robert on IL with flu-like symptoms

MLB teams can't afford to take any risks with potential COVID-19 infections and exposure. Thus, it's understandable the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Luis Robert on the injured list Tuesday after he complained of symptoms that may or may not be linked with the coronavirus.

"Outfielder Luis Robert called our medical staff Monday night and reported feeling flu-like symptoms," Chicago general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement shared by the MLB website. "As a precaution, we are placing Robert on the IL until we receive results from further testing. As was the case earlier this month with Dylan Cease, our hope is that his symptoms resolve quickly and that the testing protocols clear him to return to the active roster soon."

Per NBC Sports Chicago, Cease completed a short stint on the IL earlier this month after he displayed COVID-19 symptoms but ultimately tested negative and was cleared to return to team activities without completing the 10-day isolation period that is mandatory for any players or coaches who test positive.

Across his first 21 games this season, Robert hit .305 with one home run, six RBIs, and four stolen bases. In a corresponding roster move, the White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Alex McRae from their Schaumburg, Ill., alternate training site.
