As the Chicago White Sox look to maintain their AL Central division lead, they’re placing one of their trade deadline acquisitions on the injured list.
Prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers , the White Sox announced that they’re putting right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán on the 15-day IL with a left lat strain and are calling up Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.

Brazobán came over from the New York Mets at the trade deadline and was one of the more dominant relievers on the market. In 46 appearances with the Mets, Brazobán logged a 5-2 record with a 2.56 ERA, 49 strikeouts, a 1.01 WHIP and allowed just three home runs across 52.2 innings pitched.
Since joining Chicago, the 36-year-old has not been a reliable arm out of the bullpen. In just 10 appearances with the White Sox, Brazobán has posted a 6.30 ERA with only five strikeouts, six walks, two home runs allowed and a WHIP of 1.80 in 10 innings of work.
Brazobán will remain on the shelf until at least September 9 and hopefully return in time to help the White Sox capture their first playoff berth since 2021.
The aforementioned Cannon will now take Brazobán’s spot on the 40-man roster. Cannon has appeared in just one game for the White Sox this season, which came against the Kansas City Royals on April 12. The righty didn’t retire a single batter in that lone outing, allowing an earned run while walking three batters.
In 22 games (17 starts) in Triple-A this season, Cannon is 5-6 with a 5.18 ERA, 106 punchouts and a 1.42 WHIP in 106 innings pitched.
Chicago begins play Tuesday night with a 2.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central.
