White Sox Promote Chase Meidroth Amid Offensive Drought

News started leaking yesterday , and the White Sox made it official today: infielder Chase Meidroth is heading to the South Side. The Pale Hose, dead last in MLB with just 35 runs scored over 12 games, desperately needs any offensive spark. Enter Meidroth, who’s not a top-100 prospect by national rankings, but has generated some buzz thanks to his unique profile and impressive plate discipline.

The Path to the South Side

To make room for Meidroth, the Sox optioned outfielder Greg Jones to AAA Charlotte and designated right-hander Justin Anderson for assignment. Anderson was tendered a contract this offseason and spent spring training in AAA, but never made it up to the big-league roster.

Chicago acquired Meidroth in the Garrett Crochet trade and, after a full season at AAA in 2024, many expected him to break camp with the White Sox. Instead, they sent him to Charlotte, where he played just nine games, leading many to raise an eyebrow and whisper those three familiar words: service time manipulation.

What He Brings

The 23-year-old has logged time at second base, shortstop, and third, with most of his experience at the hot corner. For the Sox, he’s likely to bounce between second and short.

Meidroth isn’t your typical prospect. He’s more of a sleeper, but a potential gem for a team starved for competence. What he does bring is something this lineup has sorely lacked for what feels like decades: the ability to get on base. In 2024, he drew 105 walks in 122 games and paired that with solid contact skills.

What's On Tap Next?

The Sox return home today for a three-game weekend series against Meidroth's former organization, the Boston Red Sox. They scored a grand total of twelve runs on their six-game road trip. With the bats still in hibernation, the hope is that a bit of patience and a little contact from a 23-year-old newcomer might go a long way.
