The Chicago White Sox will begin a six-game road trip Tuesday with a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Before this road trip, Chicago took two out of three at home against the Colorado Rockies. Today, they announced that pitching prospect Ky Bush will be promoted to Triple-A.
Bush has had a strong season in Birmingham and will continue developing at the minor league‘s highest level.
The White Sox acquired from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the 2023 trade deadline. Fellow AA teammate Edgar Quero came to Chicago in the deal that sent Lucas Giolito and Ronaldo Lopez to the West Coast.
The lefty has bounced back nicely after a brutal 2023 campaign in Double-A. With Birmingham in 2024, he’s made 14 starts and pitched a. 2.12 ERA over 80 1/3 of an inning. Bush has surrendered two runs or less in 11 of his starts and tossed at least six innings in seven.
Most notably, he pitched better against righties than lefties. Right-handed batters are slashing a mere .158/.244/.232 in 197 plate appearances. Bush controls his destiny as to when he’ll reach the big leagues. That ETA could be as soon as September of this year.
The White Sox will have multiple spots in their rotation and bullpen to accommodate prospects through the end of the season. Bush will be part of a youth movement of minor-league pitchers at 35th at Shields throughout the rest of the year.
Should his current trajectory continue, he will join former Birmingham farmhands Drew Thorpe and Jonathan Cannon in Chicago sooner than later.
