The Chicago White Sox haven't had much to celebrate recently. They not only have the worst record in the AL, but they haven't made the playoffs since 2021.
It seemed like the White Sox developed a star in 2023, when center fielder Luis Robert Jr. slashed .264/.315/.542 with 38 homers and 80 RBI in 145 games. The Cuban international team member garnered All-Star and Silver Slugger honors that season, but his production has dipped since then.
Robert Jr. slashed just .224/.278/.379 with 14 homers and 35 RBI in 100 games last season, and he entered Wednesday's bout with the Philadelphia Phillies slashing .206/.295/.348 with 11 homers and 43 RBI across 87 contests this year. However, the 27-year-old is still getting interest around the league as Thursday's Trade Deadline approaches, via Francys Romero.
"According to industry sources, the Mets and Phillies are considered the frontrunners to land White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr.," he reported on Wednesday.
This is good news for the White Sox because they could engineer a bidding war between the two NL East rivals, as they are both contenders in the same division. In that case, Robert would help a winning team in its title quest after the trade is completed, while the White Sox would get several prospects to bolster their farm system.

The Mets and Phillies were tied atop the NL East ahead of Wednesday night's slate, and both teams could use center field depth. Veteran Brandon Marsh starts at the position for the Phillies, who was slashing .258/.331/.369 with one homer and four RBI in 85 games entering Wednesday. He's backed up by Johan Rojas, who was slashing .223/.280/.291 with one homer and 18 RBI in 70 games.
Meanwhile, Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor split time at center for the Mets. McNeil is slashing .248/.352/.447 with nine homers and 32 RBI in 73 games, while Taylor is slahsing .201/.258/.295 with two homers and 18 RBI in 96 games.
