Billy Hamilton's second stint with the Chicago White Sox organization has come to an end as the Triple-A Charlotte Knights released the speedster from their roster Tuesday.
Back in 2021, Hamilton provided a spark and leadership for the White Sox while they were dealing with a number of injuries. After splitting time with the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins in 2022, he returned to the Sox on a minor-league deal with an invite to 2023 Spring Training.
The 32-year-old appeared in just three games for the White Sox this season, swiping two bags and scoring a pair of runs without recording a hit. Hamilton then landed on the injured list on May 7 due to a hamstring issue, and he wouldn't return to Chicago.
Injury issues persisted with Triple-A Charlotte, however, as the veteran outfielder appeared in 28 games with the Knights before going back on the shelf on July 18. Hamilton, who slashed .147/.261/.253 for Charlotte, has not appeared in a game since July 7.
