Less than 24 hours after a video surfaced showing a fan heckling Ketel Marte to the point of tears, the Chicago White Sox responded with a show of sportsmanship and class.

Before Marte's first at-bat during Wednesday's game at Rate Field, the scoreboard displayed a message of support for the Arizona Diamondback star, prompting a warm round of applause from the crowd.

The gesture followed a viral clip from Tuesday night’s game, where a fan yelled at Marte and referenced his late mother, a detail confirmed by Arizona manager Torey Lovullo and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo.

"I just reacted as a dad would when I went out to change pitchers," Lovullo said to reporters after the game. "I could see he was sobbing. It hurt."

"(I told him): ‘I love you and I’m with you, and we’re all together and you’re not alone. No matter what happens, no matter what was said or what you heard, that guy is an idiot. It shouldn’t have an impact on you.’”

"I feel mad about it," Perdomo said. "We can’t continue to do that ... here in MLB."

Marte, a veteran and All-Star, has been a consistent contributor for the Diamondbacks and remains one of the team's most respected players. The White Sox's public support was widely praised on social media, with fans across the league applauding the organization for addressing the situation with empathy and grace.

The 22-year-old fan who caused Marte to break down was ejected from the game and has been banned indefinitely from Rate Field.
