Thaiss, who joined the White Sox in a deal from the Chicago Cubs, appeared in 35 games this season, posting a .212 batting average and a commendable .382 on-base percentage.
Moving Thaiss clears up one part of the roster logjam, specifically at the catching position, in which the White Sox had plenty of depth. With Lee now healthy, he will get the opportunity to return to the big league club alongside Edgar Quero, who has played well since getting the call to the majors.
Meanwhile, catching prospect Kyle Teel continues to swing a hot bat at Triple-A Charlotte and was recently named International League Player of the Week, slashing .500/.636/1.188 with two doubles, and three home runs last week signaling that it won't be long before another young catching prospect could be arriving at 35th & Sheilds.
