White Sox Trim Spring Training Roster to 60
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Stiever has been outrighted to Triple-A and five players were assigned to minor league camp.

The Chicago White Sox have been in Arizona to ramp up for the 2023 season for a few weeks now. After seeing a healthy dose of Spring Training action, Pedro Grifol has trimmed down the Sox roster to 60 players.

Among the notable transactions, right-handed pitcher Jonathan Stiever has been optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.

Stiever only appeared in three games for the Knights last season as he recovered from surgery to repair a lat injury. Before being outrighted to Triple-A, he allowed three hits and one earned run in his lone Spring Training inning. If Stiever wants to make it back to the big leagues, where he has been roughed up in three appearances, he will need further refinement in the minors.

Additionally, the White Sox have assigned five players to minor league camp: pitchers Sean Burke and Matt Thompson, outfielder Luis Mieses, infielder Colson Montgomery, and catcher Evan Skoug. No surprises there.

The White Sox have an off day Monday before returning to exhibition action Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is at 2:05 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
