The Chicago White Sox won again Wednesday night in Cincinnati, securing a 4-2 victory over the Reds to clinch their second consecutive series win. It marks their third series win in the last four and their fourth overall.

Even more notably, it’s their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Davis Martin delivered a standout performance on the mound, and the offense did just enough to back him up as the Sox continued their most competent stretch of baseball of the season. They are now 7-6 in May.

Offense Squeezes Out Just Enough

Andrew Vaughn opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI double that drove in Luis Robert Jr., who had reached on a single and swiped second base.

Robert Jr. also made a tremendous leaping catch in the third.

The Sox had a chance to tack on another run in the frame, putting a runner on third with one out, but came up empty. A bases-loaded opportunity in the third fizzled out as well, and it looked like the game was drifting toward another “missed chances” storyline.

But in the fifth, Robert Jr. snapped the trend with a two-out line-drive single to center, scoring Chase Meidroth from second. Lenyn Sosa added insurance later in the sixth with a solo shot.

Michael A. Taylor followed suit in the seventh to make it 4-1.

Martin Deals, Bullpen Hangs On

Martin exited after 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on a Spencer Steer solo homer.

Jordan Leasure came in to record the final out of the seventh via strikeout.

Brandon Eisert pitched the eighth but allowed a run on back-to-back doubles from Elly De La Cruz and Austin Hays. White Sox manager Will Venable turned to Mike Vasil in the ninth, and the right-hander shut the door for his first career save.

News and Notes

  • The White Sox designated infielder Gage Workman for assignment. He cleared waivers and returned to the Detroit Tigers.
  • Luis Robert Jr.’s 17th stolen base of the season gives him the MLB lead.
