Who designed the Braves, Reds uniforms for Speedway Classic?

There aren’t many uniforms in baseball that are better than the Braves. Every variation — throwbacks, home/road, etc. — looks great, but the Braves and Reds’ threads for the Speedway Classic are about the most disgusting iteration of any uniform I’ve ever seen.

Cincinnati and Atlanta are set to play a game at Bristol Motor Speedway, the legendary auto racing track in Bristol, Tennessee, on August 2nd. It’ll mark the first-ever MLB game played at a NASCAR track, and both clubs are leaning into the entire thing.

If you’re from Braves Country or have driven through any rural part of the South, you’ve seen this exact hat in a gas station in the middle of nowhere. These are so hilariously bad that it feels like someone made them as a joke for everyone to point and laugh at.

To make the entire situation even more laughable, and this part I kind of love, Reds’ catcher Tyler Stephenson has revealed his chest plate for the game, and it’s modeled after everyone’s favorite comedy “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”

The straps on the back of the protector include the line: “If you ain’t first, you’re last.” I mean, this is a joke, right? I love Ricky Bobby, like every immature guy my age, but what in the hell are we doing?

I don’t know. Maybe these uniforms will do well in certain parts of Braves Country, but I grew up here, and I cannot imagine many of the folks I’m around in Metro Atlanta are going to spend their hard-earned coin on this stuff.
