Who Will Sign Trey Mancini? 5 Potential Free Agent Landing Spots

Former Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini remains a free agent without a team.

There has not been a lot of recent news on Mancini's free agency, however there are a handful of teams that have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the 2022 World Series champion.

Here are five potential free agent destinations for Mancini:

1) Chicago Cubs — The Chicago Cubs have improved their roster since the start of the off-season, primarily by adding veterans on short-term contracts, each veteran having something to prove. The Cubs had been linked to Mancini, before agreeing to terms on a contract with first baseman Eric Hosmer. Some think that adding Hosmer could mean no Mancini for the Cubs, but the club still could add him as their designated hitter. The Cubs currently don't have a clearly defined DH. Patrick Wisdom should see a lot of time at third base, with Christopher Morel as a potential utility man. Nick Madrigal would likely slot in as the team's DH, given how the club is currently constructed, but my guess is that Madrigal will be traded, after the Cubs added Dansby Swanson and moved Nico Hoerner to second base.

2) Washington Nationals — Like the Cubs, the Nationals have been adding talented free agents, to low-risk, short-term contracts. Mancini could be a logical fit in the nation's capital.

3) Cincinnati Reds — The Reds could be another nice fit for Mancini, in a low-pressure, smaller market and perhaps baseball's most hitter-friendly park. Brandon Drury broke out after signing a minor league deal with the Reds a year ago. He turned himself into a desirable free agent, inking a two-year, $17 million with the favorite team from his childhood, the Los Angeles Angels. Mancini won't be signing a minor league deal by any means, but Cincinnati could be a good home for him. The Reds already picked up Wil Myers earlier this winter. Mancini could be another nice get.

4) Milwaukee Brewers — The Brewers could use another bat, which is where Mancini could come in. Perhaps Mancini could take the spot Andrew McCutchen occupied last year. McCutchen is currently a free agent.

5) Chicago White Sox — The White Sox still might need to figure out one of their corner outfield positions, and could use some more pop in their lineup. In 2022, they placed 22nd in MLB in home runs. Mancini has the ability to slug, in fact, he clubbed 35 home runs in 2019. Mancini could bounce-back nicely at a very hitter-friendly Guaranteed Rate Field.
