After Rafael Devers' departure, several stories emerged about the friction that existed between the Boston Red Sox organization, players, and Devers. Among those stories were pieces suggesting that Devers wasn't a good teammate and that he drew the ire of his teammates.
In response to those accusations, Red Sox legend and Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez called out the team and those rumors. He defended Devers from those accusations, calling out the people who made those comments in a video from Bleacher Report Walkoff on X.

"I was shocked," Martinez said. "Because if you try to sell to me, knowing Raffy Devers, that Devers is a bad teammate, that he's not a team player; You're lying."
Martinez called out those in the Red Sox organization, saying they were lying in their accusations that Devers wasn't a good teammate. Those rumors started because Devers refused to play first base, which snowballed into frustration, ultimately leading to his trade to the San Francisco Giants.
But, Martinez wasn't done calling out those with accusations against Devers. "You're going to tell me he's a bad influence in the clubhouse?" Martinez said. "He's not."
The opinion from Martinez is one shared by many fans of the team. With the majority of the Red Sox fanbase frustrated with the organization for trading Devers, Martinez's comments are a breath of fresh air.
Not only are the fans complaining, but a former player, a legend at that, is also frustrated with how the organization handled the Devers drama. This trade occurred due to the friction between Devers and the front office.
After the trade, there were countless hit pieces calling Devers a bad teammate or that he was a bad influence in the clubhouse. But, Martinez has his back and calls the people who perpetrated those rumors liars.
Martinez's comments are another indication that the Devers trade saga has left a lasting negative impact on the Red Sox organization. From trading Mookie Betts to now shipping off Devers, the Red Sox fanbase has had to watch their superstars leave when they could've had them around long-term.
