After the Boston Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, 8-4, the team came back with a vengeance and earned a 2-0 win on Friday. With the current series between the Red Sox and the Rays at one game apiece, the teams were preparing for Saturday’s game to get the advantage, but the contest has been postponed.
As the series was taking place in Boston at Fenway Park, the team posted an announcement on their X, formerly Twitter, account, as it was a statement about the postponement. The reason it was held off was “due to significant rainfall” in the area that was set to continue.
“The Red Sox-Rays game scheduled for today, Saturday, May 9, at Fenway Park has been postponed due to significant rainfall in the Fenway area expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening,” the statement read.
In terms of when the game will be made up between the Red Sox and the Rays, it would be announced that it will be the first game of a doubleheader that is to take place on July 17.
“Today’s game has been rescheduled as the first game of a split doubleheader on Friday, July 17, beginning at 1:35 p.m. Tickets for today’s game will be good for admission to the rescheduled contest. The regularly scheduled game on July 17 remains at 7:10 p.m,” the statement read.
“Both games will be televised on NESN and will be broadcast in English on WEEI 93.7 FM and in Spanish on WESX 1230 AM/WCCM 1490 AM,” the statement continued.
At any rate, the two ball clubs will not have to wait long to face each other, as Sunday afternoon at Fenway will be the rubber match. Boston currently has a 17-22 record, which puts them fourth in the AL East. As for the Rays, the team holds a 25-13 record, placing them second in the same division with the Toronto Blue Jays at 17-21 in between the two rivals.
