The Boston Red Sox have been active this offseason, adding Alex Bregman, Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler and Aroldis Chapman to an already stacked roster.
Coming off of three consecutive seasons below .500, Craig Breslow’s team vowed to shake up the league with several marquee acquisitions.
But a move recently pitched by FanSided’s Cody Williams would be the icing on the cake of an already tremendous offseason.
In the proposed deal, the Red Sox would receive Dylan Cease, who finished fourth in Cy Young voting last year, as well as star closer Robert Suarez. The Padres would receive starter Kutter Crawford, outfielder Wilyer Abreu, as well as OF Miguel Bleis and SS Dorrian Soto, Boston’s No. 6 and No. 30 prospects respectively.
For Boston, the benefits are obvious. The move not only adds Cease to an already lethal rotation, but the clearing of Abreu almost certainly sets the stage for No. 1 prospect Roman Anthony to earn the starting right field nod.
For the Padres, they would get 5 years of control of Wilyer Abreu, who finished 3rd in AL ROY voting, won a Gold Glove in 2024, and was tied for first among right-fielders with 7 OAA. On top of that, receiving Bleis, who is a top 10 prospect in one of the better farm systems in baseball, would boost their future.
One Red Sox fan tweeted: “Keep your foot on the gas. This city is dying for a World Series.”
This trade would almost certainly make the Red Sox a serious contender in the American League which is already up for grabs in 2025.
