Los Angeles Dodgers Catcher Will Smith kept the streak going of Will Smith’s winning the World Series this season. This is the fifth straight season a Will Smith has won a World Series. LA’s Smith won the “Fall Classic” in 2020 and 2024 with the Dodgers while Will Smith, the relief pitcher, won three straight championships from 2021-2023. He won with the Atlanta Braves in 2021, with the Houston Astros in 2022, and with the Texas Rangers in 2023. He was the first pitcher to be on the World Series roster with three teams in three consecutive years and win the championship each season.

Smith struggled in this season’s MLB Playoffs. He hit .143 with 3 home runs and 8 RBI. The highlight of Smith’s World Series was a solo home run he hit in Game 4. Even though this postseason run was not one of his best, he was a critical part of a Los Angeles Dodgers team that defeated the New York Yankees in five games in the 2024 World Series. Will Will Smith win the 2025 World Series?

Will Smith’s Continue Tremendous World Series Success

Smith, the relief pitcher, has had a long MLB career. He began his career in 2012 with the Kansas City Royals. His career has also included stints with the Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers. He returned to the Royals in 2024. Smith,35, has a career record of 33-45 with a 3.85 ERA. He has raised his level in the postseason with a 2.91 career ERA. Smith recorded two saves in the 2021 World Series against the Houston Astros. Smith did not participate in the 2022 World Series and posted a 13.50 ERA in 2023. Smith is a free agent this offseason and will be looking for a new home.

Will Smith, the catcher, hit .167 in the 2020 “Fall Classic” with 1 home run and 2 RBI. Smith will remain in Los Angeles for years to come following a 10-year $140 million contract extension he signed in March of this year. As the starting catcher of the World Series champions, Smith is well-positioned to add another championship to his trophy case next year.

Final Thoughts

It defies logic that this is the fifth straight season where a Will Smith has won the World Series. LA’s Smith will have a great chance next season to help the Los Angeles Dodgers be the first back-to-back champions since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees. Smith, the reliever, will need to latch onto a contender to give himself a chance to win another World Series.

He had the worst season of his career in 2024 with a 6.35 ERA. His age and recent performance will lead to a limited market for the veteran heading into the 2025 season. The baseball world will keep an eye on this baseball anomaly come October 2025 to see if a Will Smith can win a World Series for a whopping sixth consecutive season.
