Willson Contreras issues threat after controversial hit by pitch

The Milwaukee Brewers won their first game of the road series against the Boston Red Sox by the score of 8-6. Starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff did not have his best stuff early in the game, and Boston was able to drop a few bloop hits in and take a 3-0 lead. However, Milwaukee never counted itself out.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Brewers were able to plate four runs despite not hitting a single ball out of the infield. Several walks, infield hits, and Red Sox errors led to Milwaukee taking the lead.

Boston was able to retake the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning, but the Brewers tied it again in the fifth, took the lead in eighth, and added an insurance run in the top of ninth. A Willson Contreras solo home run in the final frame of the game was not enough to lead the Red Sox back.

The game was exciting, not just because of the frequent back-and-forth in scoring, but because of a controversial temper tantrum thrown by the Red Sox Contreras (not to be confused with his brother, Brewers catcher William Contreras).

Woodruff threw a pitch inside that, upon review, must have just grazed the Boston first baseman. Indeed, the pitch seemed to go right into the Milwaukee catcher’s mitt, but perhaps a thread of the ball barely touched a thread of Contreras’ batting glove.

In any case, the Red Sox first baseman reacted like he had been personally insulted by Woodruff and the Brewers, screaming and yelling at them on his way to first, during the video review, and after he had returned to the dugout.

After the game, Contreras, who has been hit by 24 Brewers pitches throughout the course of his career, had a message for them:

This is quite the message from a player who crowds the plate and leans into pitches trying to get hit. As one can see from the post above, the Red Sox first baseman is threatening violence against the Brewers if he gets hit again.

Jacob Misiorowski, whose fastball has been clocked at 103 mph in the past, pitches on Tuesday.
