Willson Contreras makes his feelings about Boston crystal clear

When the St. Louis Cardinals engineered a fire sale this past offseason, one player who was traded was Willson Contreras.

The Cardinals traded Contreras to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Hunter Dobbins and other minor leaguers. At the All-Star break, Contreras is hitting .285 with 20 home runs and 61 RBIs, and although the Red Sox are in third place in the American League East, Contreras had an honest take about his time there.

“Just leave me here. I want to stay here,” Contreras said right before the MLB Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Red Sox have surged lately, winning nine games in a row going into the break to be two games below .500. Prior to that, the expectation was that Boston would trade away players at the deadline, but the latest winning streak might have changed that thought process.

Willson Contreras leads the Red Sox in home runs and RBIs, and he seems to be enjoying every aspect of being in Boston.

Prior to coming to Boston, he spent three years with the Cardinals, and he began his career playing for the Chicago Cubs for six seasons.
