Yadier Molina appears to want Albert Pujols to return to Cardinals

It appears Yadier Molina is open to a reunion with Albert Pujols in St. Louis.

The long-time Cardinals catcher posted a picture of himself with his former teammate just hours after he was released by the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

Pujols isn't interested in retiring and wants the opportunity to play regularly. However, a return to St. Louis doesn't appear possible with Paul Goldschmidt commanding first base on a regular basis.

If the 41-year-old were to return and play for the Cardinals, it would be a special reunion with Molina and Adam Wainwright, who were members of the last Cards team to win the World Series in 2011.

Pujols, a future Hall of Famer, had an incredible career in St. Louis. The Dominican native slashed .328/.420/.617 with 445 home runs and 1,329 RBIs over 11 seasons with the club. He won Rookie of the Year in 2001, earned three NL MVP awards and made nine All-Star appearances.

Pujols also won six Silver Slugger awards and two Gold Gloves while in St. Louis.
