Yankees' Aaron Boone addresses infielder's opposition to switching positions

Torres came up as a shortstop and has played 252 career games at the position — including 108 of his 127 contests in 2021 — but has only suited up at second baseball over the last two seasons. He hasn't played third base since a "brief stint" in the minor leagues in 2018.

The 27-year-old Torres said after New York's 8-2 win against the Boston Red Sox on "Sunday Night Baseball" that he wouldn't be happy about moving to a different spot on the diamond, especially if it's the hot corner.

The two-time All-Star has had a brutal 2024 campaign, slashing a career-worst .234/.310/.362 across 376 at-bats while leading all MLB second basemen with 14 errors. This is the second consecutive season in which he has led that unfortunate category.

Chisholm Jr., meanwhile, has provided the spark that the Bronx Bombers needed in his very early tenure with the club, propelling them to three wins in a row since joining the group.

A 2022 NL All-Star with the Miami Marlins, Chisholm has gone 5-for-6 with four home runs and eight RBI in the Yankees' first two contests of a three-game road series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday and Tuesday.

For what it's worth, Torres has continued playing at his preferred spot on the diamond since the trade, while Chisholm made his third straight start at third base on Wednesday.
