Yankees’ Aaron Boone breaks silence on 1 regret amid bullpen struggles vs Mariners

The New York Yankees are having a strong season so far as they are one of the best teams in baseball, but they did lose at home against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. It was a rough game all around for the Yankees as they had trouble getting the bats going, and then when they were finally able to bring some runs home, the bullpen started to struggle.

New York went down 4-0 before bringing in three runs in during the bottom of the 7th, but that was all they would get. The Mariners then responded with one run in both the eighth and the ninth inning, and they went on to win the game 6-3.

It was a tough outing for the Yankees bullpen, but they did also struggle at the plate. Boone decided to bring in Clayton Andrews after New York got within one run, but things didn’t work out. Andrews immediately gave up a run, and the deficit that the Yankees faced grew.

“I liked the lane for him,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game, according to a tweet from Yankees Videos. “The case there is to bring in there [Caleb Ferguson], which in hindsight I probably should’ve done.”

Aaron Boone certainly has his regrets after the game. It can be hard to know what the right decision is in the moment, and unfortunately for the Yankees, things didn’t work out for them on Tuesday night. They will look to bounce back on Wednesday night.

Clayton Andrews optioned back down to Triple A

Clayton Andrews’ stint in the majors didn’t last very long as he pitched just the 1/3 of an inning against the Mariners on Tuesday. In that brief outing, he ended up allowing one hit, one earned run and he also struck out one batter. The one hit that he gave up was a home run by Luke Raley. Now, Andrews is going back down to Triple A.

“The Yankees optioned Andrews to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday,” A report from CBS Sports read. “Andrews was selected from Triple-A earlier Tuesday, and he will now head back to the minors immediately following New York’s loss to the Mariners — though now he has a spot on the 40-man roster. The left-hander only pitched one-third of an inning against Seattle, allowing a solo home run to Luke Raley in the process. Although Andrews has been serviceable in the minors since being DFA’d in mid-April, his career 27.00 ERA through 3.2 big-league innings may cause the Yankees to look elsewhere if they need to rely on their organizational bullpen depth later in the year.”

That’s unfortunate news for Andrews, but he has been doing well in the minors and will have the opportunity to earn his way back to the big leagues.

After the loss, the Yankees fell to 33-17 on the season. They are in first place in the AL East and they have the second best record in baseball behind the Philadelphia Phillies, who are 35-14.

New York will look to bounce back on Wednesday night in game two of this three-game series. Game three will take place on Thursday afternoon in New York.
