The New York Yankees have relied heavily on Carlos Rodon to step up this season after suffering season-ending injuries to both Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt. Entering Monday, New York currently owns an 83-66 record and sole possession of the top American League wild card spot, with a four-game deficit in the AL East.

Rodon has had his best year with the Yankees so far in 2025 (now in his third season with the team). He earned his first All-Star selection with the organization after an excellent first half and has been a reliable arm that New York has been able to rely on. Over 30 starts this season, the 32-year-old southpaw has a 16-8 record, 3.11 ERA along with 186 strikeouts.

Across stints with the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants and Yankees in his 11-year career, Rodon has earned three total All-Star selections. However, news emerged he may be recognized for his efforts off the pitching mound.

On Monday, New York announced that Rodon had been selected to be the Yankees’ nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award for his contributions off of the field.

The team wrote, "Congrats to Carlos Rodón for being named our 2025 Roberto Clemente Nominee!"

Rodon and his wife Ashley have founded his own foundation called the "Carlos Rodon Foundation" to support couples dealing with pregnancy problems and difficulties. While Rodon now has three children, his wife had multiple miscarriages and the family wants to bring support to other couples after experiencing the difficulties and disappointment themselves.

The two also created the “Willow Grant,” the name after their first child Willow, and it offers up $10,000–$20,000 to 25 total couples who are still trying for a family after experiencing miscarriages or pregnancy loss.

Rodon has also spent time volunteering at Bottomless Closet, a New York organization that gives women with challenging circumstances a path to entering the workforce.

As the Yankees will look to make a deep postseason run once again, Rodon has continued to be a pillar in his community aside from his incredible pitching on the field.
