Yankees Announce Historic Milestone for Rookie Jasson Domínguez

Jasson Domínguez wasted no time reminding New York Yankees fans just how electric his bat can be.

The 22-year-old center fielder launched a leadoff home run Friday afternoon at Citi Field, then came back in the fifth to crush a go-ahead two-run shot—his second career multi-homer game and first since last September. At 22 years and 147 days old, Domínguez became the youngest player in Yankees history to record a multi-HR game from the leadoff spot, according to the Yankees July 5, 2025 game notes.

The previous record-holder was a guy named Derek Jeter, who was 23 when he did it in Anaheim in 1997.

That wasn’t the only bit of franchise royalty Domínguez joined. His leadoff homer made him the sixth-youngest Yankee ever to homer from that spot. The names ahead of him? Mickey Mantle, Mark Koenig, Anthony Volpe, Derek Jeter, and Don Mattingly. No pressure.

Domínguez has underwhelmed compared to the expectations set on The Martian when he was a minor leaguer. Slowly, however, he is showing off the tools -- power and speed -- that made the Yankees give him a record $5.1 million signing bonus when he was 16 years old.

Over his last 22 games, he’s slashing .356/.392/.521 with 11 runs, 4 doubles, a triple, 2 homers, and 6 stolen bases. He’s also walked five times and driven in eight.

What stands out just as much as the power is his baserunning. Domínguez is 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts this season—tied for the third-best success rate in the American League—and an incredible 20-for-21 (95.2%) in his young career.

His speed, power, and growing plate discipline are flashing at the right time. The Yankees may have plenty of questions as the deadline approaches, but Dominguez is giving them some stability in the lineup they needed.
