The Yankees have been without star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr since April 29 due to a high-grade right oblique strain.

Chisholm initially played it off, with the star saying he initially didn't think too much of the injury, though manager Aaron Boone tempered expectations.

“In his mind, it’s going to be real quick, but I think it’s going to be a while,” Boone said. “We’ll just see how he heals up.”

Ahead of their huge rematch with the Dodgers, the Yankees announced news on Chisholm Jr.

The Yankees announced that Chisholm commenced a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Thursday, which represents a huge step in Chisholm's recovery.

The New York Post's Greg Joyce reported that Chisholm underwent a full workout on Tuesday, and the move to have him begin a rehab assignment was only a result of a belief in his health.

Chisholm struggled to begin 2025, with a .181 average and .714 OPS, but he did blast seven home runs in 30 games.

Recent reports suggest that Chisholm might move back to his relatively unfamiliar position of third base upon returning from injury.

Chisholm started his Yankee career at third base last year when he was acquired from Miami, but made all 29 starts at second base in 2025 due to DJ LeMahieu's injury. Chisholm played third base in 45 of his 47 starts with the Yankees last year.

With Oswaldo Cabrera out for a great deal of time, Chisholm's impending return is a relief to a lineup that could use a consistent third baseman.
