The New York Yankees’ season ended in disappointment as they fell to the Toronto Blue Jays in the divisional round of the MLB playoffs. However, a bright spot emerged in rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler.
The 24-year-old started two games for the Yankees in the postseason, allowing just two runs across 14 1/3 innings of work. Schlittler also collected 14 strikeouts, punching out 25% of the batters he faced. While his dominance on baseball’s biggest stage was impressive, it was not unexpected, as he had been thriving in the regular season as well.
Since making his MLB debut in July, Schlittler made 14 starts, posting a 2.96 ERA, a 4-3 record and 84 strikeouts in 73 innings. With Schlittler in the rotation, 2026’s pitching staff looks promising as New York continues its pursuit of its first World Series title since 2009.
As Schlittler enters the offseason preparing for his sophomore campaign, he has also made quite a name for himself off the field.
A native of Boston, where his family still resides, Schlittler has leaned into his personality and connection with fans, building a strong presence on social media.
Recently, he announced that he would begin offering personalized cameos on his Instagram story, pitching them as a fun holiday gift. He provided a link for requests and added a comment that read, “Ragebait preferred.”
Schlittler’s rise has been a steady climb since the Yankees selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft. While not a highly touted prospect at the time, he quickly developed into one of the organization’s most reliable arms, earning his call-up midway through 2025.
Looking ahead, he projects as a key piece of the rotation behind established veterans Max Fried and Carlos Rodon, with Gerrit Cole expected to reclaim his ace role once he returns from injury. That structure gives New York both experience and youth, with Schlittler providing balance as a mid-rotation starter who can deliver quality innings.
Schlittler has a five-pitch arsenal but relies most heavily on his fastball, which sits in the high 90s. If his development continues on this trajectory, he has the potential to become a cornerstone of the Yankees’ rotation for years to come.
