It seems the torn tendon sheath in the left wrist of New York Yankees center fielder Aaron Hicks is as bad as feared.
Hicks underwent surgery Wednesday, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday he expects the 31-year-old won't play again until spring training 2022.
"It looks like it’s going to cost him the year," Boone explained, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. "I think it’s that 4-6 month — this is something that obviously, I guess with any injury, but this is definitely not something that you want to rush back from. It’s my understanding that it’ll probably spill into the offseason, his rehab. But I haven’t got a concrete timeline exactly."
Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated added:
If Aaron Hicks does in fact miss the rest of the season, he'll finish this year with 32 games played.

Over six seasons with the #Yankees now, Hicks has played in more than 100 games in a single season just twice.
He's averaging just over 82 games played per season.
Boone's update is no surprise, as he hinted last week Hicks wouldn't be good to go by the fall.
Hicks last played May 12 and hit .194 with four home runs and 14 RBI across his 32 contests this season.
