You know things aren’t great when a team makes a roster move and loses six of their last 10 games in the same breath. Right now, the Yankees are stuck in a rough patch, and it's quite evident. The bats are inconsistent, the bullpen’s shaky, and the losses keep stacking up like rain delays in April.
The latest twist? The Yankees officially released right-handed reliever JT Brubaker on Thursday. The team had designated him for assignment earlier this week, and since no other club picked him up, he's now a free agent. Brubaker, who had Tommy John surgery last year, pitched 16 innings in 12 games for the Yanks this season. He posted a 3.38 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP, the best numbers of his career since debuting with Pittsburgh in 2020.
Today, the Yankees released RHP JT Brubaker from the roster.

The move comes just days after New York went all-in at the trade deadline. They brought in three big bullpen arms, David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies and Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants. But the reinforcements haven’t exactly turned the ship around. The Yankees dropped five of six games since the deadline, including a brutal sweep by the Miami Marlins and a series loss to the Texas Rangers.
Letting go of Brubaker is part of a bigger cleanup. The Yankees clearly want to fix their bullpen, but it’s still a mess. Devin Williams has a shaky 5.44 ERA this year, and Luke Weaver hasn’t looked right since returning from a hamstring injury.
The Yankees sit third in the AL East and are slowly losing ground. Even with high-profile additions, they haven’t found rhythm. The front office is trying. The players are grinding. But right now, consistency is nowhere in sight.
