Yankees Facing Major Decision After Bo Bichette News

While his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has received most of the contract extension buzz, Bichette also remains without a long-term agreement. On Thursday,  Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Bichette is not expected to re-sign with Toronto this offseason.

"Word is Bo Bichette is destined for free agency, however, and likely to leave," he wrote.

Following this news, the New York Yankees face a major decision. While the team is seemingly set at shortstop with Anthony Volpe, a March 25 prediction from  The Athletic's Jim Bowden had Bichette landing in New York as its third baseman.

"Bo Bichette signs a five-year, $147 million deal to play third base for the Yankees," Bowden wrote as one of his 25 predictions for 2025.

While committing $147 million to Bichette would already be a big decision, doing so while slotting him at a position he has never logged a big league inning at would be a major move. In 594 career MLB games in the field, Bichette has only played shortstop.

Third base has been a revolving door for the Yankees since Alex Rodriguez held down that position for nearly a decade. The best version of Bichette would slot in nicely to New York's lineup, but a position change would likely be required.
