Jasson Domínguez just received a sharp warning from New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The Yankees' top prospect has been competing for the starting left field job this spring, but his performance has not gone smoothly.
Cashman did not hold back when asked about Domínguez's role Thursday morning.
"There's a lane for him to take; I'd love for him to get that opportunity. He's got the opportunity to take it, but he's going to have to earn it at the same time," Cashman told reporters.
With three weeks until the Yankees open the season in the Bronx against the Milwaukee Brewers, Domínguez was put on notice that he has not yet earned his spot.

Anyone watching Domínguez this spring has seen that he has yet to prove he can handle the position.
Later on Thursday, Domínguez was seen in left field working with former Gold Glove outfielder Bernie Williams.
Still, Domínguez's struggles have been noticeable enough to raise concerns about his ability to handle the position. Former MLB outfielder Cameron Maybin suggested the Yankees move him back to center field to help him adjust. YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay has also questioned how the Yankees are handling him.
Some fans have even called for the return of Alex Verdugo, who was dreadful at the plate last season.
Dominguez has made several defensive mistakes, including drops, poor routes, misreads of the ball, and flat-out misses.
One of the most glaring examples of Domínguez's struggles came against the Philadelphia Phillies on Feb. 27.
A fly ball over his head sent Domínguez sprinting toward the warning track with his back to the plate. He misread the ball's trajectory, jumping at the last moment in an attempt to make a play. The ball bounced off his glove and fell to the ground, highlighting his challenges in transitioning to left field.
His bat has not exactly made up for the poor defense, either. Dominguez is 4-for-23 with a home run in eight games this spring.
