Yankees' Juan Soto has big return to San Diego
David Frerker-USA TODAY Sports

New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto has gotten off to an incredible start in his career in pinstripes. This weekend, the team is heading on the road, facing off against his former squad, the San Diego Padres.

Friday was the first time that Juan Soto faced off against the Padres at Petco Park. He wasted no time in reminding the San Diego fateful what they once had. In his second at-bat of the game against Yu Darvish, he launched a home run to right center field.

It was his 14th home run of the season, as the New York Yankees are loving life with him and Aaron Judge both being on fire at the same time. Judge also hit a home run off Darvish that inning, along with Giancarlo Stanton.

That threesome is as fearsome as any in the majors right now with all of them playing at a high level. Navigating the middle part of the New York Yankees’ lineup is challenging for any opposing pitcher, especially when they are playing as well as they are currently.

“I wasn’t expecting cheers or boos, but they did both,” Soto said. “I was right in the middle. That was pretty cool. That’s fine. I don’t mind at all.”

It can’t be easy for a fan base to boo someone that is as beloved as Juan Soto was. But, when he is killing your team while playing for his new one, a few boos will come out. In addition to the home run, he also hit a double and walked once as San Diego’s pitching staff had no answer for him.

New York is now 37-4 when Judge and Stanton homer in the same game, including the playoffs. When you add Soto to that, the team is now 2-0. Manager Aaron Boone could not hide his excitement when talking about his monster trio.

“It was pretty awesome, actually,” Boone said of the third inning. “You get those moments every now and then in the regular season that are, ‘Man, that was pretty cool.’ When Juan kind of took the air out of it right there and Judgey follows it right up, and then here we go [Alex] Verdugo and then here we go Stanton, one of those cool ones during the season that you get to be a part of.”

The New York Yankees and Padres will continue their series on Saturday night. Marcus Stroman is the probable starter for the Bronx Bombers, while Dylan Cease will toe the rubber for San Diego.
