Yankees leave Aroldis Chapman off postseason roster; fine him for missing workout

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced on Sunday that relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman will not be on the team's ALDS roster for their series against the Cleveland Guardians after skipping a mandatory workout on Friday.

Boone said that Chapman did not have a valid excuse for missing the workout and the the team decided to move forward without him for the ALDS series. Chapman has reportedly returned home to Miami.

Game 1 of the series will be on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman also said Chapman has been fined.

Along with the fine, Cashman said he was disappointed but not surprised in Chapman's decision to blow off the workout because there had been questions all season as to whether or not he was all in this season.

The 34-year-old is a pending free agent after this season, while there had been talk that the Yankees were considering cutting him just a few weeks ago.
