The New York Mets bested the New York Yankees on Friday and Saturday, but not because of Jazz Chisholm, Jr.. The veteran infielder went 3-for-7 with a solo homer and a walk over the two contests, a continuation of his recent hot streak.

Chisholm slashed .318/.378/.614 with seven homers and 19 RBI in June after slashing .151/.279/.312 with four homers and 11 RBI in April. The former Miami Marlin missed May due to an oblique injury.

Chisholm is also on a four-game hitting streak and is second on the Yankees with an .841 OPS. Star slugger Aaron Judge tops the squad and the entire sport at 1.202.

However, an unfortunate development regarding Chisholm occurred before Sunday's Mets matchup, via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

The Yankees left the former Miami Marlin out of the lineup. Manager Aaron Boone mentioned that he's "beat up" with "shoulder stuff," so he gave him a day off.

Backup infielder Oswald Peraza will replace Chisholm at third base and hit ninth. Peraza is slashing .159/.232/.270 with three homers and 13 RBI over 56 games, and Chisholm is slashing .245/.341/.500 with 15 homers and 38 RBI over 59 games.

Southpaw pitcher Max Fried (10-2, 2.13 ERA) will start for the Yankees against Mets right-hander Chris Devenski (0-0, 3.38 ERA). The game will start at 1:40 p.m. EST at Citi Field.

The Yankees are entering the matchup tied for second place in the AL East with the Tampa Bay Rays and three games behind the Toronto Blue Jays. Meanwhile, the Mets are a half-game behind the Philadelphia Phillies atop the NL East.
